Welcome to Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh.

Dr. M. Owais, Lecturer in the Unit since 1998 obtained M.Pharm from Jamia Hamdard, Delhi, M.Sc. from JNU and Ph.D. from Punjab University, Chandigarh. Trained at CDRI, Lucknow and IMTECH, Chandigarh for his graduation programme. During his post doctoral training, he worked with Dr. R. C. Gallo’s group at NIH, USA developed HIV-2 based gene therapy vectors and also worked on functional domain mapping of chemokines. Leading edge advances include, Development of tuftsin bearing liposomes for treatment of human aspergillosis and candidiasis, Development of immunoliposomes for treatment of CHQ resistant murine malaria. Development of liposomes for delivery of antigens/nucleic acids into cytosol of target cells, Development of gene therapy vectors for treatment of viral diseases with special focus on AIDS, Cloning and expression of chemokines in insect and eukaryotic cells. Co-author of several research articles, covering areas of drug targeting, immunology as well as molecular biology. Presently working on development of liposome based vaccine against various infectious diseases. Also trying to decipher role of chemokines, in treatment of intracellular parasitic infections.
