The Drug Society: A Brief Introduction
The Drug
Bank Society of Aligarh Muslim University is a non-political, non-profitable,
charitable organization run by a group of students with philanthropic aim that
includes supply of drugs and blood free of cost to poor and needy. Drug Society
was revived on 7th April 2000 (World Health Day) with 5 batch mates contributing
Rs 250/-. With the mercy of Almighty and concerted efforts of whole student
community, the university drug bank grew bigger and bigger day by day...
It is basically run by students of JNMC. In order to avoid hierarchy and evil
politics we do not declare post, every member is equal in each and every
respect, Since there is varying level of participation so by virtue of ‘law of
momentum’ most active person becomes unofficial working head for that time
interval. For sake of credibility & proper guidance we had our senior teachers
as guide who had helped us a lot in propagating this message of charity &
humanity.
Patient’s Selection Criteria
The volunteers visit the wards daily and gather information about those who deserve the help mainly from the Consultants, Registrars, PG’s and paramedical staff. After getting information they approach the respective patient and inquire about his/her financial status. After a quick judgment, if the patient is found to be really needy, then we arrange for the requirements. Special emphasis is given to orphans, widows, senior citizens and children.
Arrangement of Blood:
Another approach in this regard is the arrangement of the blood. We have prepared a Blood group list of all the under graduates of JNMCH and other volunteer donors. We fulfill the requirement of blood only if the patient is found to be needy and who can not arrange it for him/her self.
Collection of money & Physician’s Samples
We, the volunteers look every nook and corner to collect money and find channels for generating funds. Money is collected on monthly basis so that transactions become easy but there is no compulsion. There is provision for money given as Zakat but that should be notified to before taking receipts from the volunteer because it is to be used accordingly. The volunteers who look after this unit give frequent visits to the consultants, Registrars & PG’s for drug samples so that it could be given it to the needy. We made a list of all these to avoid any sort of misuse.
