DIAGNOSES AND DISCUSSION OF CHALLENGING CLINICAL CASE NO. 11/2001
Entrapment of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve
Entrapment of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve, which can occur where it enters the thigh beneath the inguinal ligament near the anterior superior iliac spine, causes a sensory neuropathy known as “meralgia paresthetica.” Symptoms of this disorder, which typically occurs in obese persons, include pain and decreased tactile sensation over the lateral aspect of the thigh. Treatment is infiltration with a local anesthetic or, if this procedure proves ineffective, surgical sectioning of the nerve. |
